Eligibility

This is the criteria that applicants must meet to be allowed to compete for the role under recruitment. On most occasions there are statutory requirements such as number of years standing for legal posts and specific nationality requirements.

Equality

Equality is an alternative term for ‘Equal Opportunities’.

It is based on the legal obligation to comply with anti-discrimination legislation. Equality protects people from being discriminated against on the grounds of group membership i.e. sex, race, disability, sexual orientation, religion, belief, age or dependant responsibilities.

Equity Monitoring

NIJAC is required to monitor gender, age, ethnic origin, community background and the parts of Northern Ireland (if any) with which applicants regard themselves as being most closely associated.

Applicants are therefore asked to complete an Equity Monitoring Form when applying for judicial office.
