CICAP Medical Adjudicator
NIJAC is seeking to appoint 2 fee-paid Medical Adjudicators to the Criminal Injuries Compensation Appeals Panel (CICAP). A reserve list will also be retained for 12 months from the anticipated date of first appointment (January 2026).
The purpose of the Criminal Injuries Compensation Appeals Panel for NI (CICAPNI) is to support the victims of violent crime by determining promptly, impartially, fairly and independently appeals against review decisions made by the Northern Ireland Compensation Services in accordance with the Northern Ireland Compensation Scheme(s) (2002 and 2009).
Medical Members bring expertise, insight and knowledge, as they sit with their legal and lay colleagues to ensure fair outcomes in a range of complex and challenging cases. The contribution of the Medical Member is key in reaching decisions that balance the welfare of individuals with the delivery of justice.

To be eligible for appointment as a Medical Member is to, by date of application:
Be a registered medical practitioner with the General Medical Council (GMC). Registered medical practitioner means a fully registered person within the meaning of the Medical Act 1983 whether or not they hold a licence to practise under the Act.
A licence to practise (as distinct from registration with the GMC) is not a requirement of appointment. In order to be eligible to apply an applicant’s registration with the GMC must be unconditional. Conditional registration is where the doctor has either been issued with a warning or has been referred to a Fitness to Practice Panel or has any restrictions imposed upon there registration with the GMC.
This judicial appointment is to a fee-paid role.
The fee paid is £170.46 per sessional sitting (half day) or £340.92 per day (two sessions).
