Judicial Opportunities for Registered Medical Practitioners

NIJAC is seeking to appoint various doctors to include Consultant/Specialist Associates, GPs and other eligible medical practitioners to sit as fee paid members of the Appeal Tribunals.

A reserve list will be retained for 12 months from 13 December 2023, the anticipated date of the first appointment to accomodate any unforeseen vacancies during this period.

Generalists

NIJAC are seeking to recruit 38 Medical Generalist Members for appeals against decisions made by the Department for Communities on entitlement to Personal Independence Payments and ESA. No medical examination of appellants is required.

To be eligible for appointment as a Medical Generalist Member is to, by date of application:

  • Be a registered medical practitioner with the General Medical Council (GMC). Registered medical practitioner means a fully registered person within the meaning of the Medical Act 1983 whether or not they hold a licence to practise under the Act.

Fee: The fee paid is £177.85 per sessional sitting (half day) or £355.70 per day (two sessions) for the first 40 sessions.  The 41st session onwards until 31st March 2024 is payable at a rate of £213.54 per sessional sitting (half day).

 

Specialists

NIJAC is seeking to recruit 9 Consultant/Special Associates as Medical Specialist Members. The main function of the fee paid specialist medical member is to hear and determine appeals from those claiming Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit. They may also be required to examine appellants for the purposes of deciding if they have suffered an industrial accident or if they suffer from an industrial disease, and to decide on the level of disablement.

To be eligible for appointment as a Medical Specialist (Consultant/Special Associate/) Member is to, by date of application:

  • Be a registered specialist medical practitioner with the General Medical Council (GMC). Registered medical practitioner means a fully registered person within the meaning of the Medical Act 1983 whether or not they hold a licence to practise under the Act.

Fee: The fee paid is £213.54 per sessional sitting (half day) or £427.08 per day (2 sessions).

All fees are subject to uprating from April 2023.
