NIJAC is seeking to appoint 1 fee-paid Legal Adjudicator to the Criminal Injuries Compensation Appeals Panel (CICAP).  A reserve list will also be retained for 12 months from the anticipated date of first appointment (February 2026).

The purpose of the Criminal Injuries Compensation Appeals Panel for NI (CICAPNI) is to support the victims of violent crime by determining promptly, impartially, fairly and independently appeals against review decisions made by the Northern Ireland Compensation Services in accordance with the Northern Ireland Compensation Scheme(s) (2002 and 2009).

Eligibility

To be eligible for appointment as an Adjudicator (Legal Member) to the Criminal Injuries Compensation Appeals Panel (CICAP) is to by the 10 November 2025, be:

  • A member of the Bar of Northern Ireland of at least 7 years’ standing; or
  • A solicitor of the Court of Judicature of Northern Ireland of at least 7 years’ standing.

Section 107 (1) of the Judicature (NI) Act 1978 provides for the aggregation of years’ standing for holding office of solicitors who have been barristers, and vice versa.

This judicial appointment is to a fee-paid role. 

The fee paid is £308 per sessional sitting (half day) or £615.17 per day.
