Fee-Paid Employment Judge x6

It is intended to make 6 appointment/s and to maintain a reserve list for 12 months from the anticipated date of first appointment (12 February 2024).

The purpose of the job is to provide swift, effective, efficient and informal justice when dealing with claims lodged with the Office of the Tribunals. Fee-Paid Employment Judges are required to apply a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the principles of law and jurisprudence and a comprehensive knowledge of the rules of evidence and of tribunal practice and procedure.

In particular a Fee-Paid Employment Judge would be required to conduct hearings of the Industrial Tribunals and of the Fair Employment Tribunal with two other panel members or sitting alone and facilitate the fair participation of litigants-in-person and lay representatives in hearings.

 

Eligibility:

To be eligible for appointment as a Fee-Paid Employment Judge with ITFET a person must, by the anticipated date of appointment (12 February 2024), be either:

 

  • A member of the Bar of Northern Ireland or solicitor of the Court of Judicature of Northern Ireland of at least seven years’ standing; or
  • Have a seven year general qualification within the meaning of section 71 of the Courts and Legal Services Act 1990; or
  • An advocate or solicitor admitted in Scotland of at least seven years’ standing.

Prohibition to Practice - Fee-Paid Employment Judges will be required to give an undertaking not to practice before the IT FET once appointed. 

Fee: £542.37 per day. This role is also pensionable.
