High Court Judge appointed
Monday, 14 May 2012Her Majesty The Queen has appointed Mr Paul Richard Maguire QC to the office of High Court Judge for Northern Ireland.
The Northern Ireland Judicial Appointments Commission (NIJAC) has responsibility for the selection of persons for recommendation for appointments to the judicial offices listed in Schedule 1 to the Justice (Northern Ireland) Act 2002, as amended by the Northern Ireland Act 2009. The office of High Court Judge falls within the list of statutory offices in the Schedule and therefore within the remit of NIJAC.
Mr Paul Richard Maguire QC was called to the Bar in 1978 and became Queen’s Counsel in 2006.
Mr Maguire QC has also lectured in public law at Queen’s University, Belfast and served as a part-time Chairman of the Employment Tribunals.
Mr Maguire QC has practised extensively in the higher courts and has been involved in significant public law cases as Junior Crown Counsel and later as Senior Crown Counsel.
